Bid to publish book on bereavement raises £2k

A CAMPAIGN to “crowdfund” a book on bereavement for young children has raised more than £2000 in its first 24 hours.

Elker Barber, from Gorebridge, wrote Is Daddy Coming Back In a Minute? after her three-year-old son Alex saw his father Martin die of a heart attack at the age of 34. She was shocked to find there were no books to help explain sudden death to young children, so decided to write her own.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, the money she had saved to publish the book was eaten up by day-to-day living expenses.

She is trying to raise the money on the Bloom crowdfunding site, which gives her 60 days to reach her target of £8000.

Ms Barber, who yesterday began her second round of chemotherapy, said: “I had no idea that the response would be so incredible.”
