‘Problems are not the nurses’ fault’

Have your say

GREAT grandfather Bill Saunders has been something of a regular at the ERI in recent years.

The 82-year-old from Penicuik suffers from angina and was admitted earlier this week with kidney trouble.

He agrees that standards of hygiene and maintenance at the hospital are poor, having witnessed them firsthand.

But the former Midlothian Council worker said he felt for the nursing staff.

“I was watching a chap clean the floor in my ward, and all he was doing was moving the dirt to another part of the floor, he wasn’t actually getting rid of it,” he said.

“I don’t think NHS Lothian deserves to be criticised for this, it’s the people who do the cleaning who look like they can’t be bothered doing it properly.

“The nurses are fantastic and the care I receive is excellent.”
