Hearts have suffered another season-ending injury with the news midfielder Andy Irving has broken his wrist.

A fractured scaphoid rules the teenager out for the rest of the campaign to compound a wretched run of injuries for manager Craig Levein.

Irving is the latest in a series of Hearts players to be sidelined, following the likes of Arnaud Djoum, Demetri Mitchell, Rory Currie, Jamie Brandon and Marcus Godinho.

The 17-year-old sustained the break during Monday’s Development League match against Celtic at Lennoxtown. After four senior appearances since returning from a loan at Berwick Rangers in January, Irving’s season is now at a premature end.

Levein admitted to the Evening News he is glad this campaign is drawing to a close due to the number of injury problems Hearts have endured.

He revealed yesterday that Godinho would likely miss the final three league games and that has been confirmed after medics decided the Canadian requires a knee operation.

“We’ve now lost Andy, who has broken his scaphoid. It happened in the Under-20 game on Monday. I think it will end his season,” lamented Levein.

“Just as well the season is almost up because we’ve had an unbelievable amount of serious injuries. We’ve sent Marcus Godinho for an op on his knee so that’s his season definitely finished as well.”
