Heritage body in move to block fast food outlets bid

The leading heritage group in the Capital has launched a bid to block plans to build two fast food restaurants at Edinburgh Park.

Scottish Widows Investment Partnership has applied for permission to allow branches of KFC and drive-through doughnuts firm Krispy Kreme to be built at Lochside View.

Marion Williams, director of the Cockburn Association, said: “We are very concerned by the proposed siting of these fast food outlets in a highly prominent position where the M8 terminates its approach to the city.

“It would be a sad reflection of the city’s design environment if the gateway on the main route into the city amounted to these two fast food outlets.”

However, the application won the support of Gyle Business Park worker Matthew Padfield, who wrote to planners to say they would provide “two good destinations for lunchtime walks and food”. Councillors will make a decision on the application on Wednesday.
