Hibs will host Hearts in the Scottish League Cup after the draw for the quarter-finals was made today.
It will be third time in three seasons the Capital clubs have clashed in cup action following the 2011-2012 Scottish Cup final – which the Jambos won 5-1 – and the fourth-round meeting just six months later where a goal by Hibs midfielder David Wotherspoon proved the difference.
The last time the clubs met in the League Cup was in 2006-07 – a Rob Jones header giving Hibs the win at Easter Road – with John Collins’ side going on to lift the trophy with a 5-1 mauling of Kilmarnock at Hampden.
The Hibees clinched their place in the last eight of this season’s competition with a 5-3 win over Stranraer on Tuesday while Hearts secured their spot via a penalty shoot-out after their 3-3 draw with Queen of the South last night.
The all-Capital quarter-final will be played at Easter Road on either Tuesday, October 29 or the following evening.
The other ties see Dundee United travel to Inverness and Motherwell host Aberdeen. Championship side Morton, shock winners over Celtic in the last round, are at home to St Johnstone.
Draw: Hibs v Hearts; Inverness CT v Dundee United; Morton v St Johnstone; Motherwell v Aberdeen. Ties to be played October 29-30.
