Hopetoun House to host exhibition by ‘gadgie’ artist

THE artist who made his name painting working-class “gadgies” is to hold his latest exhibition in one of Scotland’s grandest stately homes.

Alexander Millar, who has been dubbed the new Jack Vettriano and who once spent months in Leith being inspired by the dock’s characters, streets and pubs, is holding his only Scottish exhibition this year in Hopetoun House in South Queensferry.

Organised by Peebles contemporary art gallery Breeze, the Lad to Laird exhibition on Sunday, October 2 will feature an extensive collection of Millar’s work and is expected to attract up to 500 collectors and investors.

Mr Millar said: “I’ve been able to refresh my art over the last few months and have produced lots of new paintings that reflect the love I have for Scotland.”
