Horses given free rein in annual riding

the annual Riding of the Marches took place in Currie at the weekend.

After meeting at Weaver’s Knowe, where the Ensign and Equerry – the flagbearer and their right-hand rider – were presented with their sashes, the horses were led to the boundaries with Juniper Green and Balerno.

Amongst the famous faces there to oversee the traditional event were former chancellor Alistair Darling MP and current Pentlands MSP Gordon MacDonald.

A presentation was also made to long-serving Conservative councillor Alastair Paisley after he stood down at last week’s election following 16 years as an elected member.
