Human Rights Festival brings workships and films to Edinburgh

FILMS, talks and workshops will feature in the second Edinburgh Human Rights Festival at Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, tomorrow.

Hosted by Amnesty International groups in and around the Capital, the programme. from midday until 5pm, allows people to attend a specific film or workshop or stay for the whole day.

Highlights include a video of Burmese human rights activist Aung San Suu Ky and a talk by writer Louisa Waugh about recent experiences in Burma; a presentation about the current situation in Syria; and a talk on Amnesty’s work in China by Bernard O’Hear, the group’s former co-ordinator there.

Films include a series of shorts on asylum; Ramallah Road, a documentary on the life of Palestinians on the West Bank; and another on women’s rights.

Syrian food will be available for purchase. A family area will be available with creative play.

And there will be stalls from Freedom from Torture, Campaign Against Arms Trade, Refugee Survival Trust, Jubilee Scotland, Scottish Pen, Hadeel, White Ribbon Campaign and the One World Shop.
