Hunt on after theft attempt

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was the victim of an attempted theft in Haddington

The victim, an 88-year-old woman, was walking through Patterson Place around 2.50pm on Monday when she was approached by a man who tried to steal her purse from her jacket.

The suspect is described as dark-skinned, between 25 and 30 years old, 5ft 5install, with short or shaven dark hair. He was wearing pale grey chinos and a dark anorak.

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who was in the area of Haddington town centre yesterday afternoon, who noticed the suspect there, should contact police immediately on 0131-311 3131.”
