A WOMAN was shoved and her iPhone stolen by an obese robber thought to weigh around 20 stone.

The 22-year-old had been waiting at the bus stop on West Granton Road, near to Edinburgh College, when she was targetted by the suspect.

He attempted to snatch the phone from her hand before pushing her on the shoulder causing her to stumble and release her grip.

The robber then seized the phone and made off towards West Granton Road.

A female witness to the attack - which took place last Thursday – asked the victim about her welfare before leaving in the same direction.

The suspect is described as being white man, 5ft 7in with a heavy build. He was wearing a black hooded top with hood up and across face, black bottoms and trainers.

The witness is described as a white woman in her mid-thirties. She is around 5ft 2in with a medium build and brown hair, which reaches just below her shoulders. She was wearing a black waterproof jacket, baby blue zip jumper and jeans.

Detective Constable Stephen Herd said: “This incident was a distressing incident, which has left the victim very upset.

“We are particularly keen to trace the woman who witnessed this robbery, as we believe she may know the suspect’s identity. Anyone who recognises either description is urged to contact police.”
