A GANG of four men is being hunted by police after beating a man in Lothian Road and leaving him with serious facial injuries.

The 21-year-old suffered a broken eye socket, cheekbone and jaw. He had been walking towards Tollcross at around 2.55am on Saturday when the gang approached and punched him repeatedly in the face before making off.

No descriptions of the assailants are available.

After making his way to the Lava and Ignite nightclub, in West Tollcross, the victim reported the assault to police, who contacted an ambulance.

A police spokesman said: “Due to the severity of his injuries, officers have been unable to speak with the man in depth to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident and so the assistance of the public is vital at this time.”

He added: “Anyone who was on Lothian Road in the early hours of Saturday morning and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police.”
