Hunt for youths who smashed train window

POLICE have appealed for the help of commuters to help them catch youths who threw stones and smashed the window of a moving train.

British Transport Police said the driver of the 6.27pm North Berwick to Edinburgh Waverley station saw the group of youths throwing stones as the train left Wallyford station in East Lothian.

The incident happened just before 6.55pm on Monday, 30 April, and resulted in a window of the rear coach being smashed.

Nobody was injured and the train was able to complete the journey, but officers asked anyone travelling on the train to contact them if they witnessed the stones being thrown.

Constable Ryan Tierney of BTP, the officer in charge of the enquiry, said: “Throwing any object at trains is a really stupid thing to do and I am appealing for anyone who has information regarding those involved to come forward as a matter of urgency.”
