EDINBURGH and the Lothians witnessed some of the most spectacular lightning strikes in Scotland last night as the ‘heatwave’ was broken by midnight thunderstorms.
The warm weather, enjoyed by many across the city yesterday, was interrupted around midnight with loud thunder claps and streaks of lightning fork.
While some completely slept through the noise, others were on hand from West Lothian to East Lothian with their smartphones and cameras to capture the phenomenon.
One snapper, @MrKitCarruthers tweeted: “Worth staying up for!” Another Twitter user @Pablomontana76 posted: “Street was shaking, alarms and power going off. Felt like my house was collapsing.”
The balmy temperatures are set to give way to rain over the coming week.
