JK Rowling to receive award for her fundraising

JK ROWLING was today set to receive an award in recognition of her fundraising at Edinburgh University, on the same day Princess Anne takes up the reins as Chancellor.

Princess Anne succeeds the Duke of Edinburgh, who stepped down as Chancellor in 2010, having held the role since 1953. During the ceremony in the Assembly Hall on The Mound, Princess Anne will present the award to the Harry Potter author.

Last year Ms Rowling donated £10 million to fund the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at the University, which will focus on developing treatments for multiple sclerosis and other degenerative neurological conditions.

The Princess Royal will be the University’s eighth Chancellor in the 150-year history of the position.

She is also Patron of the University’s Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.

Her new responsibilities will include acting as president of the university’s General Council and nominating an Assessor in the University Court.

But some students plan to disrupt the inauguration ceremony over the university’s decision to charge students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland to study there.
