Jobs minister to celebrate inspired work

LIVINGSTON MP Angela Constance was today due to celebrate the achievements of young people involved in John Lewis’ “Work Inspiration” programme, which helps bridge the gap between school and work.

The programme offers pupils the opportunity to be supported by John Lewis employees through mentoring and work experience.

During the visit to the department store’s Glasgow branch, the Youth Employment Minister will present certificates to pupils who have completed the programme.

Ms Constance said: “John Lewis’ programme is a great example of the energy, willingness and creativity being focused by employers in Scotland on helping young people into work.

“I want to ensure our young people have the best start in adult life, and programmes like this help bridge the gap between school and the workplace.

“Making that link between classroom and workplace is vital and helps young people see the relevance of their learning and the career opportunities on offer.”
