A COUNCIL plumber told a court that Scotland’s top judo athlete bit off part of his ear in a street fight.

Keiran Clare said Commonwealth Games hopeful Craig Stewart injured him after they clashed during a Hallowe’en pub crawl in 2012.

Mr Clare said he later found the missing section of his ear lying on the road and put it on ice. Emergency doctors were unable to reattach it, but he has since had a four-hour operation under general anaesthetic to replace the missing part.

Stewart, from Harthill, denies repeatedly biting Mr Clare on the body to his injury in Cochrane Street, Bathgate, on October 27, 2012.

He and co-accused Benjamin Dahle, 21, of Blackridge, also deny repeatedly punching and kicking Mr Clare on the head and body to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The trial, at Livingston Sheriff Court, continues.
