Later this month, at the Capital’s very own International Magic Festival, there’s a chance to witness their nightmarish, head-spinning act live on stage.

Magus Utopia is just one of the acts performing in Magicfest’s gala shows at the Royal Lyceum Theatre on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 May.

Expect startling illusions, pinpoint choreography, and how-did-they-do-that moments, as they top a bill that includes Guinness World Record Breaker (and event organiser) Kevin Quantum, pickpocket entertainer James Freedman, lightning quick mathemagician Tom Crosbie, and freestyle comedian MC Hammersmith.

MagicFest Artistic Director Quantum last week received the overall Adelaide Fringe Best Magic Award for his show Anti-Gravity, and says, “I was surprised and delighted to receive this award on the other side of the world. It’s a real honour.”

The Gala will be the culmination of a week of magical entertainment which kicks off on Friday with a sparkling Wizard World Gathering at the Assembly Roxy with DJs, live magic shows, fantasy quiz and other surprises.

This year, the ever popular Secret Room also returns to the Royal Mile Writers’ Museum and Lauriston Castle, combining close-up magic with tours of some of Edinburgh’s historic buildings. There are also intimate events at the Scottish Storytelling Centre from performers such as Chris Cook and Vincent Gambini.
