Karate champion attacked fiancé

A KARATE champion attacked his fiancé after finding “explicit” emails to her from male admirers.

Calum Robb had downed ten bottles of beer and a bottle of wine before he hit partner Kelly Ann West in the face.

Robb, a PHD student at Heriot Watt University, had gone to bed following the drinking session with Ms West, where he then discovered the amorous messages on the couple’s iPad.

The black belt confronted the woman about the emails before pushing her and hitting her four times in the face.

Ms West suffered swelling to an eye and bruising to her upper lip during the drunken assault at the couple’s home in Tranent.

She managed to flee into the couple’s bathroom where she was forced to call police for help.

Sheriff Pamela Bowman today told Robb, 28, she would have jailed him if he had not pleaded guilty to the assault at an earlier hearing.

She instead ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

Robb captained the Scotland Karate team at the World Championships in 2008.
