Killer told the police they had right man

A RUNAWAY killer had to convince police officers to arrest him after they turned up with an old photograph of him which looked nothing like his current appearance.

A court was told yesterday that Samuel Stewart freely admitted to officers that he was the on-the-run inmate they had been hunting for more than a week.

But the officers needed persuading because the thin-faced man in the picture they had looked markedly different from the round-faced absconder they were confronted with.

Stewart, from Edinburgh, had eight months added to his sentence yesterday after he admitted failing to return from a period of home leave earlier this month.
