Kitching has ‘wow factor’ all dished up

A CAPITAL restaurant “with the wow factor” has been handed a prestigious award.

Paul Kitching’s 21212 was named Restaurant of the Year at this year’s Catering in Scotland Excellence Awards.

The judging panel, including representatives from the Scottish Food Guide and the Hospitality Industry Trust, said 21212 “stood out on all levels”.

It added: “The menu sounds complex but the kitchen delivers clarity of flavours and brilliant textures that make each plate of food intriguing, but at the same time a delight to eat. More than that, our winner has the wow factor.”

Mr Kitching was named Chef of the Year at the 2011 awards.

The Lothians had more to celebrate, with The Bridge Inn at Ratho, winning the Pub Excellence Award.

The judges said it “sets the standard for every pub in Scotland”.

“Everyone has a vision of their perfect pub and this ticked all the boxes. From friendly and informed service to excellent local sourcing and a well thought-out menu, it delivered at every level,” they added.

The awards were held in Glasgow last week.
