Land gets set for new life

FIVE acres of vacant industrial land in west Edinburgh are to be redeveloped to attract businesses to the area.

J Smart & Co will overhaul the site at South Gyle Crescent, formerly a plumbing merchants, marking the first speculative development in the area for five years.

A planning application has been submitted to develop an initial first phase of industrial units comprising two terraces of units totalling 26,000 square feet with a secure yard.

The first phase of the development will be completed in 2013.

Property agents Jones Lang LaSalle said there was a lack of new, good quality industrial space.

Associate director Kirsty Palmer said: “The development’s excellent location should help to generate inquiries.”
