Latest Edinburgh paper sculpture found in library

A MYSTERIOUS paper sculptor has created a fresh stir - by leaving an intricate new work of art in one of Edinburgh’s libraries.

The latest sculpture was found in a Leith library

The birds’ nest was discovered by Leith Library staff on Friday afternoon, accompanied by a quote from Winnie the Pooh creator AA Milne: “It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like “What about lunch?”

It was inside a box with a message written on it saying simply: “Libraries are special places.”

The female sculptor, who still remains anonymous, created 10 literary-themed scuptures, which were found in arts venues across the city two years ago.

Several new ones were commissioned for a national book-reading celebration last year, while the original sculptures also went on a tour of the country.

Edinburgh City Council, which is responsible for Leith Library, said staff were “over the moon” to have received one of mystery sculptures.

Norma Hart, vice-convenor of culture, said: “Considering the likes of the National Library of Scotland, the Scottish Poetry Library and even Ian Rankin have been gifted sculptures, this really shows that the efforts of the library to encourage and foster a love of reading in the community are making a big impact.”
