Liberton Primary School fire: Firefighters still on scene and travel restrictions in place

Firefighters are still on the scene at Liberton Primary School after a major fire broke out yesterday afternoon.
Staff and pupils were evacuated with no reported injuries.
Gilmerton Road is closed in both directions between Good's Corner and Double Hedges Road and drivers are warned to expect delays in the area.

Hide AdThe school will be closed until the weekend and parents will be told next week about contingency plans before pupils return from half term on February 17.
The fire caused 'significant damage' to the school and there are reports that the roof fell in.
Education Convener Cllr Ian Perry said: “The decision to close the school has not been taken lightly however unfortunately this has been a major fire which has caused significant damage to a large part of the school.
“There have been no reported injuries and I want to thank the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Council teams for their swift response. We’ll update parents next week regarding contingency arrangements.
“We will work closely with the fire service to determine the cause of the fire.”
