Gilmerton Road is closed in both directions between Good's Corner and Double Hedges Road and drivers are warned to expect delays in the area.

The school will be closed until the weekend and parents will be told next week about contingency plans before pupils return from half term on February 17.

The fire caused 'significant damage' to the school and there are reports that the roof fell in.

Education Convener Cllr Ian Perry said: “The decision to close the school has not been taken lightly however unfortunately this has been a major fire which has caused significant damage to a large part of the school.
