Licence plan put on hold

Plans to charge organisations for holding art exhibitions, poetry readings and other live events have been suspended after an outcry from the city’s creative sector.

Councillors on the licensing committee have put the issue to a public consultation until April 20.

Scottish Government legislation was due to be introduced on April 1, meaning all events, no matter how small, would have to be licensed.

Neil Cooper, from the Stop Public Entertainment Licence Changes campaign, said he hoped “common sense will prevail” with regards to decisions on small events.

Committee convenor Councillor Rob Munn said: “I and my fellow councillors have listened intently to what has been said and taken on board public opinion.”
