Lifeboat goes to men’s aid

RESCUERS came to the aid of stricken fishermen whose boat lost power and began drifting off the East Lothian coast near Dunbar on Saturday night.

Dunbar RNLI launched the midnight operation after the 14-metre vessel Jackie Dee broke down on passage from Charlestown, Fife, to the north of Scotland.

The two fishermen on board had tried to fix the boat for several hours but raised the alarm after drifting miles down the coast into the sea lane of the Firth of Forth.

Dunbar Lifeboat coxswain Gary Fairbairn said: “In the event we had to tow the boat back to Dunbar with our crew on board assisting and it was 5am before we got back to Torness and refuelled.”
