Linlithgow cleans up at beauty competition

THE Royal Burgh of Linlithgow has scooped awards for its beauty and cleanliness in a prestigious national contest.

Judges at Keep Scotland Beautiful awarded the West Lothian town the contest’s top gong – the Rosebowl trophy – for the cleanest and most beautiful community in Scotland as well as the Medium Town Trophy and a Special Endeavour Award.

To celebrate their win, Burgh Beautiful Linlithgow were paraded through the town in a horse-drawn carriage.

Michael Russell MSP said: “Everyone who has worked to make their special place even more special, deserves the thanks of their fellow citizens and of Scotland, because we want the whole country to look as good as possible.

“That benefits all of us, draws people to us, and secures a better future.”

Also among the prizes was North Berwick, whose In Bloom group collected the David Kerr Coastal Resort Trophy and a gold medal certificate in the Coastal Resort category. East Linton in Bloom was awarded a Silver Gilt medal certificate in the Large Village category. In Edinburgh, Wheatfield Backgreen Association was presented with the Flatted Community Trophy.
