Linlithgow man ‘ashamed’ of pregnant partner attack

Have your say

A MAN who attacked his pregnant partner during a drink-fuelled argument was caught after a passer-by heard her screams.

John Reid admitted pulling his partner’s hair after a member of the public called police in the early hours of March 3.

The 56-year-old, from Linlithgow, pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He also admitted breaching a special bail condition by contacting her while he was awaiting trial and was fined £225.

Kate Hart, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for more than six months and Reid frequently spent the night at the woman’s home in Linlithgow.

Reid’s lawyer said the first offender was “very ashamed” that he’d attacked his pregnant partner but was committed to continuing the relationship.

Passing sentence, Sheriff Susan Baird told Reid: “You know you’ll have to behave much better in future, particularly with a child coming into the world.”
