Local news: Dance night takes step for mental health

A NIGHT of music and dance aimed at promoting positive mental health messages through the arts is being held tonight.

The stomp out stigma ceilidh, part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival, will allow people the opportunity to express themselves through dance, poetry and song.

Kirsten Maclean, who helped co-ordinate the event, said: “We’re really looking forward to a great night.”

It takes place in the St Brides Centre, Orwell Terrace, from 7.30pm to midnight.

Art exhibition takes the lead

The New Town gallery Framed will hold an arts sale to support the work of the The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home next month.

Cash raised from sales at the Rescue exhibition, which opens with a drinks reception and entertainment at Gayfield Square from November 4, will go to the pet centre.

Market sets out its stall

SHOPPERS are being invited to the Linlithgow Farmers’ Market.

Stalls will be selling a range of produce including items such as large varieties of meat, eggs, cheeses, crafts, handmade soaps, smoked produce, fish and seafood.

The market is taking place at The Cross from 10am-2pm tomorrow.

Volunteers to gather for networking

VOLUNTEER groups from across Europe will attend a conference providing training, debate and networking in Edinburgh this weekend.

The four-day event, which began at the Best Western in Clermiston yesterday and will run until Sunday, is the 20th annual conference and is titled Make a Difference by Volunteering.

The weekend will also see awards handed to three Scottish projects.

Power lunch serves up top two

A NETWORKING lunch featuring talks from two powerhouses from the business community is being held on Wednesday.

James McVeigh, of Festivals Edinburgh, and Neil Brown, of Edinburgh Leisure, will address guests at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street at noon.

Grand designs for series of architecture debates

A SERIES of evening debates on architecture are taking place in the Capital.

City council design leader Ricardo Marini is hosting the series of debates in the Urban Room at the council’s Waverley Court headquarters.

Earlier this week, Neil Baxter of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland was special guest.

Other speakers lined up for the coming months include Malcolm Fraser, of Malcolm Fraser Architects, Jonathan Speirs, of Speirs and Major, and Stan Doyle, of Atkins.
