Lone residents on increase

THE number of people living alone in the Capital is set to increase by 50 per cent over the next two decades, forecasters have said.

The increasing population, more elderly residents and a greater desire to lead the bachelor lifestyle have been cited as reasons for the projection.

Around 87,000 people currently live alone in Edinburgh, but that will have swelled to 133,000 by 2033, according to figures released by the General Register Office for Scotland.

The rise is well above the national average.
