A REVIEW of Lord Provost Donald Wilson’s office has been launched after costs doubled in a year.

Councillor Wilson came under fire after the Evening News revealed the city council paid £250 for his kilt to be loosened after he piled on the pounds attending hundreds of civic functions. He later paid it back.

The annual overspend on the costs for his office is forecast to double from £223,000 to £433,000 in the year to March.

New papers have revealed two chauffeurs among his growing staff complement of 12. Latest figures show that of nearly 900 engagements, Councillor Wilson has been to 101 dinners and 81 receptions, compared with the total of 429 events attended by his predecessor in 2008.

Tory group leader Cameron Rose was set to press for answers on the Lord Provost’s office costs at today’s full council meeting.

The council confirmed the Lord Provost’s office was under “operational review”.
