Louise pipes up for the big occasion

HEARTS players were piped out of City Chambers yesterday by one of the city’s best-known bagpipers, Louise Marshall Millington.

Louise, who was dressed in a red, black and white tartan dress, also played when Hearts won the Scottish Cup in 2006.

But the piper has also been in demand by Hibs. Last year, she played Sunshine on Leith at the funeral of Hibs legend Eddie Turnbull and in 2007 was involved in Hibs’ celebrations when they won the CIS Cup.

“It’s great to be part of a big occasion,” she said. “I was asked to pipe by the Lord Provost’s office and, given that he’s a new provost and quite modern, I thought I’d better go for a more modern look myself.

“I just like to be a bit different so people don’t always think of pipers as men with big beards in kilts.”
