Superman has Lois Lane, Spiderman has Mary Jane – and brides-to-be dream of a dashing comic book hero to sweep them off their feet.
An Edinburgh couple has taken the hero theme more literally than most, with one half of the dynamic duo canvassing to win a dream wedding while dressed as Batman.
Lorie-Ann Lopes and her fiancé Luke Watson, are among four couples in line to win a £28000 reception at Hopetoun House – the largest wedding prize ever given away by Scotland’s Wedding Blog ‘We Fell in Love’.
But first the quirky couple must persuade as many people as possible to vote for them before the end of the month or they risk losing out.
Self-confessed comic book ‘geek’ Luke is so determined to win the dream wedding that he has been out on Princes Street in a kilt and a bat-suit asking people to vote for them.
The 26-year-old former labourer said: “I wasn’t sure of the reaction I would get but it was fantastic.
I would love to go to the wedding itself as Batman but Lorie-Ann would kill meLuke Watson
“Eight tourists from Tennessee stopped as soon as they saw us.
“They wanted their picture taken and they said they would vote for us.
He added: “I would love to go to the wedding itself as Batman but Lorie-Ann would kill me so I will be wearing a Batman T-shirt under my clothes.
“My best man and ushers will be wearing shirts of other superheroes underneath.”
Luke has a wardrobe of clothing bearing the famous Batman insignia, but his lover has drawn the line at all-out fancy dress.
“We want to keep it classy so it will be more Bruce Wayne than Batman when it comes to the big day – or perhaps Batman in a tux,” she added.
If the couple win the prize, the reception will be held on Friday, November 20 at the luxury venue in South Queensferry, a stately home to rival Wayne Manor.
Almost every part of the glitzy reception will be paid for by the wedding blog, including music, wedding film, photography, drinks and even the wedding dress.
The pair, who live together in Granton, met more than three years ago when they bonded over a shared love of classic cinema.
The couple were left heartbroken when Lorie-Ann – known by her friends as L.A – had to return to her home country of Canada and they were then forced to maintain a long distance relationship for several months.
However the Caped Crusader Luke arrived unexpectedly in Toronto to propose, with fireworks going off in the background.
Lorie-Ann said: “I didn’t even know he was in the country. He had already asked her parents for their blessing, over Skype.
“He proposed to me in front of her family and friends with fireworks going off in the background. It was perfect.”
