MacAskill commits to police jobs

THE Justice Secretary has given reassurances to police officers and backroom staff that there will be no compulsory redundancies when Scotland’s eight forces become one.

Kenny MacAskill has written to all staff stating their terms and conditions of employment will be retained.

The letter comes after it was announced last month that the Scottish Government would be pressing ahead with plans to create a single police force following a consultation earlier in the year.

Mr MacAskill’s letter reads: “I do recognise from speaking to staff and officers across Scotland some of you are concerned about what reform means for you personally.

“All officers and staff in post when the new organisation is established will transfer to the new Scottish police service on the day of establishment and will retain their terms and conditions of service on transfer.”
