MacAskill praises anti-violence film at Holyrood screening

A FILM shedding light on street violence and gangs was screened at Holyrood yesterday in the presence of cast and crew from YMCA North Edinburgh.

Kenny MacAskill MSP and Malcolm Chisholm MSP welcomed the team behind “Concrete Brothers” to the Scottish Parliament. The film, based on a poem written by one of the young men involved in the project, was funded by CashBack for Communities Anti-Violence Fund, which takes cash seized from the proceeds of crime and invests it into community projects.

Speaking about the project, Kenny MacAskill said: “The Young Men’s Group at the YMCA have worked hard on this project and I am delighted to welcome them to the Scottish Parliament to celebrate their success.

“I understand that the film project has encouraged some of the group to apply for media courses at college and another has had access to training at the BBC. This is fantastic news.

“It’s great to see CashBack monies being ploughed into such positive projects in Edinburgh.”
