AN 80-year-old man was attacked by a woman as he sang to a small crowd on the Royal Mile.
The victim – a Canadian – had to be taken to hospital for treatment after the incident yesterday.
He was singing outside John Knox House at around 5pm, when a woman who came out of a kilt shop across road approached him.
A disturbance broke out, and the pensioner fell and hit his head on the ground.
A passer-by called for an ambulance and the victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he was treated for his injuries.
The attacker is described as mixed race, late 40s, 5ft 8in, large build, and with shoulder length dark hair.
Detective Constable James Philp said: “We know that a small crowd had been watching him sing, so we are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.”
