Man admits to abusing two girls more than 16 years ago

Robert Tait, 63, behaved indecently to the first girl on three occasions between October 3, 1990, and October 2, 1991.

Fiscal depute Ann MacNeill told Edinburgh Sheriff Court how Tait behaved indecently towards the girl, who was aged 12. The court heard the second girl was aged 13 when the abuse started. Ms MacNeill said the second girl was abused between August 24, 1995, and March 31, 1996. Disclosures by both girls were not made until much after the abuse.

Tait, of Ravenswood Avenue, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to two charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour towards the two girls at an address in Edinburgh.

Sheriff Derrick McIntyre added his name to the sex offenders’ register and deferred sentence until next month.
