Man charged after flat is smashed up

POLICE have charged a 50-year-old man who allegedly smashed up his own flat in Sighthill yesterday.

Officers were called out to the property in Cobbinshaw House South on Calder Gardens about 2.55pm.

The man was found smashing up his windows and other items inside the flat.

Police forced entry to the property before arresting the man and taking him to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for assessment.

He suffered some injuries to his feet, but was otherwise believed to be unhurt.

No-one else was injured in the alleged outburst.

A Police Scotland spokesman said the man had not barricaded himself in the house, but officers had still had to force their way into the property.

The man was due to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal today for a breach of the peace and culpable and reckless conduct.
