Man denies four rape charges

Chan Wright, 39, faces a total of 29 charges spanning 16 years, including sexual assault, rape, theft, and supply of cannabis.

Among the charges, he is accused of raping four different women at addresses in Livingston, Edinburgh and Aberdeen between 1994 and 2010.

Wright, who has gone on trial at the High Court in Aberdeen, denies all the charges.

He has lodged a special defence of self-defence in relation to some of the charges and has said that any sexual contact was consensual.

The trial has already heard a witness tell how she heard a “terrified” voice coming from an Edinburgh property in the moments leading up to one of the alleged assaults.

Jill Henderson 33, told the jury she heard a “distressing” argument between a man and a woman.

“It was horrible,” she said. “I could hear a male voice shouting and swearing and a female voice which sounded terrified.”

Wright is charged with raping one woman in Livingston between 1995 and 1997 as well as sexually assaulting her.

He is also accused of raping and sexually assaulting another woman in Fountainbridge between 2000 and 2005. And another woman is alleged to have been raped by Wright in South Queensferry in 2001.

Wright also faces a variety of other charges.
