A YOUNG man screamed racist abuse at the owner of a takeaway after he was assaulted on a Christmas night out.
Sean Gowland shattered the glass door of the restaurant and smashed the windows of a sweet shop, terrifying members of staff in both businesses.
Gowland, 22, appeared for sentence yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to two counts of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the shops and at St John’s Hospital in nearby Livingston during the late night disturbance on December 23 and 24 last year. Gordon Clark, prosecuting, said police officers saw Gowland running across the road from the Candyland shop in Broxburn and smashing his way through the door of Ruby’s Takeaway.
Kevin Dugan, defending, said Gowland had been on a night out and had too much drink. He said: “He seems to have caused this trouble because he was assaulted in one of the shops.”
Sheriff Martin Edington put Gowland under social work supervision for 18 months, and ordered him to do 270 hours of unpaid work.
