A MAN has gone on trial at the High Court accused of murdering a pensioner at his home in West Lothian.

Keiryn Nisbet, 22, allegedly killed Robert Simpson,67, at his home in Mayfield Drive, Armadale, on October 5 last year.

Prosecutors claim Nisbet entered Mr Simpson’s flat and repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped him on the head and body.

They also claim that Nisbet inflicted blunt force injuries upon Mr Simpson and dragged him across the floor of the house.

The Crown further allege that Nisbet attempted to avoid being arrested for the murder of Mr Simpson by washing and cleaning items of clothing that he had worn during the alleged attack.

Nisbet, a prisoner of HMP Addiewell, denies a total of five charges at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Nisbet’s legal team has lodged special defences in relation to the murder charge. His lawyers say that three other people murdered Mr Simpson.

The trial is expected to last four weeks.
