MARGO MacDONALD called for women to back independence in her final TV interview, to be aired next week.

The Independent MSP, who died aged 70 earlier this month, features in a one-off BBC documentary What Women Want, which will be broadcast on Tuesday.

Speaking to Jackie Bird, Margo urged women to vote Yes for the sake of their children’s future, but said they were put off by Alex Salmond’s “steamroller approach”.

Margo said: “He goes through everybody – hard, fast and takes no prisoners.”

Meanwhile, more than 1600 people have signed a petition backing her Bill which would legalise assisted suicide in Scotland, campaigners said.
