Older children in Scotland are being offered a vaccination against measles following an outbreak in England and Wales.

Health boards are writing to parents of unvaccinated children or those who are only partially protected to offer the MMR vaccine or a booster shot.

Chief Medical Officer Sir Harry Burns said there had been 16 cases of measles in Scotland since January.

He added: “Vaccination is the best way to protect children against serious diseases and I would urge parents to ensure children are protected.”
