COUNCILLORS in Midlothian have elected their third leader in less than two years.

Owen Thompson has replaced SNP colleague Bob Constable, who quit earlier this week after just 18 months in the hot seat.

Cllr Thompson, 35, had been deputy leader until today’s vote saw him sweep to power.

Brought up in Loanhead and educated at Edinburgh Napier University, he became Scotland’s youngest councillor in 2005.

He said: “I am absolutely thrilled that colleagues have shown their trust in me. I worked closely with Bob and look forward to him continuing to be an important part of the admini stration of this council.”
