A MOTORIST has been dragged from his car and assaulted in front of horrified witnesses during a rush hour road rage incident.

The assault, which is understood to have taken place in the street outside Paterson SA Hairdressers, on Lothian Road happened at 8.20am yesterday morning and was seen by shocked commuters, who described the driver being violently attacked.

It is understood the attack was sparked by an earlier incident on the road.

Police Scotland confirmed they were investigating the assault.

A spokesman said: “A 41-year-old man was pulled from his vehicle and assaulted by another motorist.

“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry in relation to this incident.”

Witnesses took to social media to express their shock, with one young woman, who was understood to have been on a passing bus when the incident took place, tweeting: “Someone just pulled a guy out his car on Lothian road and started laying into him.”

An employee of Football Nation, situated across the road from the hairdressers, reported seeing police “everywhere”.

In June this year, 60-year-old solicitor James Maguire was given five penalty points and fined £400 after striking a pram with his car during a road rage incident after his car was blocked in in Market Street, Haddington.
