MP backs change to card charges
EDINBURGH West Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart has called for better protection for people making payments on credit or debit cards.
He is backing a campaign by Consumer magazine Which? urging the Government to ban debit card charges, and to make credit card charges fair and transparent.
He said: “Businesses are taking advantage of the current lack of regulation to impose additional charges on customers when they use their debit or credit cards.
“Processing a debit card payment for flights costs a business approximately 20p, and yet a family of four flying abroad this summer could pay up to £48 in debit card surcharges.”
