MS research centre gets £30k boost

A RESEARCH centre dedicated to multiple sclerosis in Edinburgh has received a generous donation from charities across Scotland.

Local organisations affiliated to the MS Society clubbed together and gave the Edinburgh Centre for Transitional Research at Edinburgh University more than £30,000.

Treasurer Stephen Kennedy thanked branches in Perth, Stirling and Angus for the cash.

He said: “It’s been wonderful and gratifying to meet such a dedicated team of scientists striving to unlock the complex mysteries of MS and to learn more about the brilliant research they are doing.

“The work that’s taking place here is giving real hope to people with MS across the country.”

The centre was established in 2007 and made a crucial breakthrough last year in relation to myelin, damage to which causes the illness which is more common in Scotland than most other places.
