THE family of a driver who died following a car crash on New Year’s Day have described him as a “much-loved” son.
Police today named the victim of the crash as David Gasper, from Hungary.
The 20-year-old was driving a Ford Fusion when it was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Mokka on Murrayburn Road at around 6.45pm on January 1.
His 13-year-old cousin, who suffered injuries to his torso, was a passenger in the car.
Mr Gasper was taken to Western General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Monday, January 11.
Inquiries into the crash are ongoing and police are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, Mr Gasper’s family said: “David was much-loved and his death has left us utterly devastated. He had travelled to Edinburgh last September with the hope of providing a better life for his family who he loved very much and we are all so sad that he is no longer with us.
“We take comfort from the thought that he is now at peace and we would like to thank the medics who tried to save his life. We also wish to express our gratitude to the local residents who came out from their homes and supplied water and blankets to David’s cousin moments after the crash.
“We are still coming to terms with losing David and we ask anyone who witnessed the crash to please make yourself known to police and assist with their investigation.”
