Mum keeps her sports car after son caught drink-driving

AN elderly woman has escaped having her £60,000 sports car confiscated after her son was caught driving it while nearly four times over the limit.

Ian MacFarlane was spotted driving his mother’s Mercedes CLK 200 erratically after he went to collect a takeaway.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that MacFarlane, 57, of Dalmeny Street, Leith, had gone away for the weekend to get away from a “fraught” relationship with his mother.

Yesterday he admitted driving with excess alcohol in Auchterarder, Perthshire, with the Crown asking to confiscate the car. Sheriff George Way banned MacFarlane from driving for two years and fined him £400. He said taking the car away would be “disproportionate”.
