A MUM told a jury she was “mortified” when a group of students found her in a stairwell with the man accused of raping her.

The 19-year-old admitted at the High Court at Livingston that she was half naked with her back against a wall when the students arrived home.

She said items of her clothing were scattered on the way up the stairs.

Griffith John Hemming, 37, denies repeatedly raping the woman in Annandale Street, on January 11, 2012. Hemming, currently a prisoner at Saughton, has lodged a special defence that the woman consented to have sex with him.

Under cross-examination, the alleged victim confirmed that she had met Hemming in a chip shop in Broughton Street in the early hours of the morning.

She said she had initially agreed to go home with him but changed her mind after they got in a taxi together.

She admitted she consented to being kissed and fondled in the stairwell, but added: “Just because I did something doesn’t mean I have to do anything else.”

The trial continues.
