Gordon met the stranger on Manse Road on July 6 but was forced to retreat after experiencing the beginnings of a panic attack. He feared it was a missed opportunity and decided to take fate into his own hands in a bid to meet the blonde. He turned up outside the Torfin pub at 6pm sharp wearing a pressed polo neck and shiny brown boots but sadly his hoped-for date didn’t materialise.

Edinburgh was rooting for Gordon and the pub was inundated by calls and people popping in to see if the two had been reunited. Linsey Lindley, who works behind the bar, told the Evening News: “He was quite overwhelmed with the attention as he’s not on social media. He didn’t have a clue about the campaign.”

Gordon, thought to be in his early 60s, was taken under the wing of bar staff and treated to a slap up meal after it became evident that the mystery woman was a no-show. Linsey said: “He was a genuinely lovely man. I’m so heart sorry for him. People were really touched by his story.

“We’ve got his number so if she does ever turn up we can pass it on.”

But Gordon doesn’t have to worry, as staff at the Torfin have plans for a speed-dating night dedicated solely to the brave bachelor.
